What
is ‘La Garrigue’?
‘La Garrigue’ refers to the unique terrain
found in southern France. Garrigue is a type of low, soft-leaved scrubland in
the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and foothills. It is found on limestone
soils around the Mediterranean Basin, generally not far from the sea, which
slightly tempers the climate, but still makes for very hot, dry summer weather.
‘La Garrigue’ is characterized by lavender, thyme, juniper, rosemary and sage
and is well-known – and loved – for its wild earthy qualities. The vines chosen
by Le Clos des Suds are all well-adapted to this rugged terrain and in fact
thrive in this sometimes harsh environment.
